The NC will be moved by parliamentary party leaders of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) Teinwell Dkhar and Teilinia Thangkhiew during the ongoing summer session of the council.
Informing this here, Dkhar said, “We have lost our condifence on the present People Democratic Forum (PDF) executive committee.”
This came in the wake after the sudden decision to withdraw support to the Syiem led EC by seven members of the three regional parties including the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) yesterday.
They have accused the incumbent chief executive member (CEM) PN Syiem of dividing and blackmailing the regional political parties by allegedly misusing the forum to form a new political party under the name of People Democratic Front.
The UDP leader said that the main intention of the NC is to topple the present EC even as he expressed confidence that the move is likely to be successful tomorrow.
Asked whether they would seek the support of the Congress to form the new EC in the council, he however said it will depend since they are all in the opposition bench.
“But we are yet to discuss on matter relating to forming the EC with the Congress,” he added.
However, KHNAM MDC from Jaiaw Adelbert Nongrum has decided not to support the no-confidence motion after Syiem tabled three official resolutions on the issues raised by the KHNAM, which include amendment of the AD rules.
“I have decided that I will not support the NC and will maintain as a neutral member of the House (not taking side) at the moment,” he said after the session here.
Meanwhile, the KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem expressed confidence that he would still be able to overcome the test. “We will have no problem even if they move the NC against our EC,” he said.
Syiem claimed to still have the number with the two out of the seven signatories of the letter withdrawing support shifting their allegiance back to the ruling PDF.
According to him, the HSPDP is now left with only two members (Teilinia Thangkhiew and Samlin Malngiang) after Blanding Warjri decided to continue his support to the alliance.
Earlier during the session, Congress leader of opposition Manstudy Nongrem questioned the Council’s Chairman LG Nongsiej for going ahead with the proceeding of the House despite the ruling side is in minority.
The CEM however said that there is no rule to say that a piece of paper (referring to letter of withdrawing support) will indicate that the CEM has lost the confidence of the House.
Backing the CEM, UDP MDC from Nongkrem Hispreaching Son Shylla, who has recently decided to support the PDF, said that the opposition can move a no confidence motion. Shylla recalled that when he was left alone as the CEM, yet the opposition has to move the NC since the chair is an elected post.
