SHILLONG, JUNE 7: Congress leader and cabinet minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh today said the BJP will only ‘use and dump’ the regional political parties, which have recently agreed for a pre-poll alliance ahead of the 2018 state elections.
“The UDP-HSPDP pre-poll alliance is for gaining power and only to defeat the Congress but with no ideology and vision,” Lyngdoh told reporters here on Wednesday.
Also accusing the two regional parties of willing to work with a party like the BJP, he said it is not for the interest of the state but for the interest of their ‘selfish interest’.
The Urban Affairs Minister also said that this is because of the fact that the BJP knows that only the Congress which can put up a fight against the saffron party.
“However, the BJP will only use the regional parties and then dumped them,” he said.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) have agreed to fight together from the 36 seats in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region in the forthcoming state elections.
Asked, the Congress leader however said that he doesn’t see the alliance of the two regional parties will be a threat for the ruling Congress.
He exuded confidence that the Congress will emerged as the single largest party. “We will get absolute majority on our own,” Lyngdoh added.
According to him, people of the state are wise enough to realize which party can ensure development, communal harmony and respect the Constitution, and it is only the Congress can provide that.
Stating that there are self-serving politician with selfish motives, he said that such people who are power hunger for the sake of power will be exposed very soon.
