SHILLONG, MAY 29: Tension continues to grip the state’s capital when miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a tobacco shop on Monday evening.

 

 

 

The incident took place at around 6.15 pm, when miscreants came and hurled a petrol bomb at the tobacco shop of one Santosh Kumar Jalewa at Qualapatty Jeep Stand, SP (City) Vivek Syiem said.

 

 

 

However, only the mattress inside the shop was partially damaged.

 

 

He said that fortunately there was no injury reported.

 

 

 

There have been as many as nine incidents of arsons and petrol bomb attacks in the three districts of Khasi Hills region in the past three days, a fall out of the violent protest against the construction of railway line in Ri Bhoi District.

 

 

 

As per the police website, four incidents were reported only in Shillong city.

 

 

 

Miscreants on Sunday set ablaze one tourist vehicle (ML-05L-8790) which belonged to Daroishisha Wankhar while it was parked at Lum Khyriem at 12.30 am.

 

Tyres were also burnt on the road at Malki Point at around 11.45 pm on Saturday.

 

 

In the same night, miscreants also lobbed a petrol bomb at the office of Superintendent of Training for Self Employment of Women in Need of Care and Protection, Laban Shillong causing partial damage to the office. It was at 8.40 pm.

 

 

Again, miscreants on motorcycle also hurled a petrol bomb at Rynjah police station but no damage was reported. The incident took place at around 10.40 pm of Saturday night.

 

 

In South West Khasi Hills District, a petrol bomb was hurled at the verandah of the office of the Superintendent of Fisheries, at Mawkyrwat. As a result, minordamage was caused to the main door of the office.

 

 

 

Police recovered one plastic bottle containing petrol (2 litres approx). In this connection, DG Lyngdoh, Superintendent of Fisheries, South West Khasi Hills lodged a complaint and a case was registered.

 

 

In Ri Bhoi District, tyres were burnt on the road of Pahamsyiem along the National Highway-40.

 

 

In the same night, miscreants threw a petrol bomb at one truck (AS-23BC-3364) driven by Jagdish Saha, which was parked at 20th Mile, NH-40, causing partial damage to the driver’s cabin.

 

 

 

Miscreants burnt the hay stack valued around Rs 50,000 belonging to Halas Rai at Mawroh, Nongpoh.

 

 

Meanwhile, five KSU leaders and members have so far been arrested and were booked under MMPO Act in connection to the violent protest in Ronghana village where the contruction of the railway line is ongoing.
