MBOSE ordered probe

SHILLONG, MAY 22: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) has ordered for an enquiry to probe into the leakage of the SSLC result last night before taking legal course of action against a “private unaffiliated website”.

The incident in which the results of 20 toppers of the SSLC were leaked yesterday, a day before the schedule time for official declaration which was at 10 am today has put the MBoSE in a big embarrassment with many questioning its credibility.

“The Board has taken a serious note on the matter and ordered for an enquiry to examine all aspects of the online leakage and fix responsibilities as well as suggest corrective measures,” MBoSE executive chairman Pravin Bakshi told reporters.

The decision was taken after a meeting was convened by the Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Education DP Wahlang held here on Tuesday, after the official declaration of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) results.

He said the enquiry which will be headed by the Secretary in-charge Education Walpeter Roy Lyngdoh has been asked to complete the investigation and submit the report within 10 days time.

Stating that such incident is the first in the history of the board, Bakshi further informed that as per preliminary reports, the merit list leak is attributed to a “technical glitch”.

Asked whether any FIR has been filed in this connection, he however said, “We are waiting for the enquiry report as there are many angles to this we need to be armed with something conclusive before we lodge an FIR.”

He also added, “If it is proved that they got it from somewhere through wrongful means by poaching or hacking or collusion with somebody then it comes within the ambit of cyber crimes.”

Reacting to a query, he said that at this juncture nothing proves that there is any leak at the level of MBoSE (from the officials) but that will again depend on the findings of the enquiry.

Bakshi further informed that data base of the results was in fact shared with the affiliated websites around 7 of them, 10 to 15 minutes before the actual time (10 am) of the official declaration fixed by the board.

“The leak has not happen through these sources (affiliated websites) but it is too early for us to say how it happened,” he said adding “We will definitely take legal action against the website and the contact from where it has been leaked.”

Meanwhile, the board’s executive chairman assured that the SSLC results which have been declared has in no way been compromised or vitiated.

“The results have not been compromised. The marks of students and details have not been affected or tampered with,” he said.

According to him, the SSLC and HSSLC (Arts) results had been finalized on May 18, itself and preparatory steps were being taken to publish the results as per the schedule time.
