SHILLONG, APR 21: Ahead of the crucial 2018 state elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today announced that it would come up with a “vision document” to make Meghalaya as one of the front ranking states in the country.

“We are going to have a vision document for Meghalaya which will talk about how to make Meghalaya as one of the front ranking states in next five to ten years,” BJP top leader of the North East Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday.

Addressing newsmen after the 5th state executive committee (SEC) meeting of the BJP Meghalaya state held in the state capital, Sarma said prior to this, the party would be having a citizen consultation in every district headquarters of the state.

“We will institutionalize citizen consultation so that the hope and aspiration of the people is reflected in our vision document,” he said while pointing out that the exercise would improve and strengthen the organizational strength up to the booth level.

The Assam finance minister said that the party is already gearing up its preparation and is confidence to form a BJP government in Meghalaya in 2018.

“Our party is ready to fight the battle in Meghalaya so that next government can be formed by the BJP here. I can tell you with all confidence that Meghalaya will see a BJP government as and when election is conducted,” he said.

Sarma, who is leading the BJP mission to oust the Congress governments in the North East region, said that party’s national president had laid great emphasis on organizational expansion of BJP.

“No BJP workers can sleep well till we have the Southern, Eastern and North East part of India. We are still working hard and will continue to work hard,” he said.

In the North East, he said the BJP expansion started with its massive victory in Assam followed by Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, where it is now running a very stable government adding in two states – Sikkim and Nagaland, they are being headed by the alliance partners of BJP.

Stating that next round of elections in the NE will be in Meghalaya and Nagaland (which will go for re-election) and Tripura, he said, “The BJP is ready to take up challenges of these three states.”

In the context of Meghalaya, he said that the party has recognized that Meghalaya have a government which is very unpopular and the state not seen the kind of development which the people of the state deserve.

“In order to actually make Meghalaya as the front ranking states in our country we recognize that there should be a state government which both letter and spirit ready to implement Modi’s vision India,” he said.

Sarma alleged that the Congress led state governments are very slow in implementing the many central government plans and activities in their respective states.

“So in order to translate PM vision in Meghalaya, we need a vehicle which will be our own state government which will implement PM programmes of development for Meghalaya,” he reiterated.
