SHILLONG, APR 5: The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has warned legal action against people misusing the social media following the recent circulation of a new born baby who was found abandoned inside a toilet.
In a statement issued here, SCPCR chairperson Meena Kharkongor said that the Commission has taken serious note on the recent circulation on Whatsapp of a new born baby born inside a Municipal toilet at Nongmynsong.
“We condemned the action of the people misusing the medium of the internet in such a manner,” Kharkongor said.
The chairperson however said that the particular incident relates to October 3, last year wherein the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), East Khasi Hills District had dealt with the case.
According to her, after observing all formalities, the baby was handed over to his maternal grandmother on November 1, last year and is now healthily growing up.
Stating that there are people trying to mislead the public by such inhuman circulation, Kharkongor said that the matter has also been brought to the knowledge of the SP.
“In future if any such misleading messages are being circulated around, the source of such messages shall be tracked down and whoever is/are responsible shall be dealth by the Law severely,” the chairperson stated.
