SHILLONG, APR 5: At least five juveniles were arrested for their alleged involvement in a recent gang rape case against a 16-year-old mentally challenged girl in East Jaintia Hills District.
The juveniles who are of the age – 12, 16, 17 and 18 were among the seven accused involved in the gang rape case which took place in a remote village of the district on April 2.
“We have arrested all the accused persons,” district police chief S Thamar said here.
All the accused persons are from Mynthning village.
Poisalan Lamurong (19), Jok Chyrmang (32) and two minors (17 and 16 years) were arrested on April 3 and another 16 year old on April 4, by the police while immediately acting on an FIR lodged with the Khliehriat Police Station.
However after a continuous search operation, two other minors (12 and 18 years) were again arrested on Wednesday, Thamar said.
The SP further informed that all the five juveniles were remanded to juvenile home while the others to judicial custody. They have been booked u/s 376 (g) IPC and section 6 of POCSO Act.
