SHILLONG, MAR 2: The Assembly Committee on Subordinate Legislation today served a 10-day deadline to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and the Shillong Cantonment Board to address the problem of scarcity of water supply faced by residents.
Senior officials of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and elected ward members of the Shillong Cantonment Board (SCB) were summoned by the committee during a meeting convened by its chairman Sanbor Shullai here on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters, Shullai said that several complaints were received from the people of Jhalupara area on the problem of deficiency of water supply.
He informed that in a meeting held on February 26, it was resolved that the PHE and SCB should be summoned to ensure that the grievance was redressed.
“In today’s meeting, we have given 10 days-time to them and they should accordingly furnish a report before this committee,” Shullai said.
However, he said that if the matter was not resolved within 10 days, a public interest litigation (PIL) would be filed as all residents were paying water tax.
