Shillong, Nov 7: Turning the heat on those involved in manipulation and tampering of marks for the interview of the assistant teachers in the government lower primary schools two years ago; anti-corruption activists Wednesday filed an FIR against the ministers and legislators named in the CBI report submitted to the Shillong bench of Guahati high court.
The Meghalaya Right to Information Movement (MRTM) and Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) FIR said, “We demand immediate action and a thorough investigation be made into the matter since the offences committed disclose the cognizable offences under the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act.”
Demanding that the police take actions against those involved, the two ngos said, “To ensure that the culprits how high they may be, involved in the commission of offence, should not go unpunished.”
The CBI report was submitted to the court after the single bench court of T. Vaiphei, ordered for inquiry into the rampant manipulation and tampering of marks in the compilation sheets, for the post of the asst LP Teachers.
The CBI report names the then education minister who is holding urban affairs portfolio now Ampareen Lyngdoh, minister Prestone Tynsong, JA Lyngdoh, AL Hek, RC Laloo, Assembly speaker Charles Pyngrope, deputy speaker Sanbor Shullai and legislators- Sniawbhalang Dhar, RV Lyngdoh, Remington Pyngrope, Limison Sangma and Donkupar Massar of manipulating the result of the assistant teachers posts.
The FIR filed by Angela Rngad and Anges Kharshiing on behalf of the two organizations says, “The public representative on whom the public has full faith has committed breach of trust allowing such large scale manipulation for political gain and for some extraneous consideration.”
Accusing Lyngdoh of acting illegal in collusion and connivance with other members of the assembly, the FIR said that she ordered the officials to carry out such large scale manipulation in the selection process for the appointment of assistant teachers in government LP schools thereby misusing and abusing her position along with the legislators named in the CBI report
Ryngad and Kharshiing said, “It is an open corruption by the legislators in the history of Meghalaya which has eroded the faith of the people in the system as such stringent action is warranted and the person who have committed white coloured crime needs to be punished as per the law of land and no one is above the law.”
The FIR said the forgery committed for the purpose of cheating caused a “criminal breach” of trust.”
The FIR also stated that the then principal secretary education, PS Thangkhiew, and the officers who signed in the score-sheets did not verify the authenticity of the documents despite protest lodged by the candidates and even declined to meet the affected candidates which clearly show that he is also involved in the criminal conspiracy. – By Our Reporter
