Shillong, Nov 7: Meghalaya Assembly speaker Charles Pyngrope has forwarded the complaint submitted by NCP legislator and convener Sanbor Shullai seeking disqualification of all the NCP legislators who had merged with the National People’s Party (NPP) to all the NCP legislators including the legislature party leader Conrad Sangma asking for their comments.
Pyngrope told www.ohmeghalaya.com website Wednesday that the Shullai’s complaint has been forwarded to all the NCP legislators who had merged with the NPP. He said, “ After receiving their comments, he will study and decide what course of action can be drawn against them.”
After eleven NCP legislators led by former Lok Sabha speaker and NCP national general secretary PA Sangma merged with the NPP, Shullai had shot off a complaint letter to Pyngrope demanding that the eleven legislators be disqualified under the anti-defection act.
However, interestingly, NCP and Opposition leader Conrad Sangma is yet to submit all the relevant legal papers to the speaker informing him about the merger of the eleven NCP legislators to NPP. Technically, all the eleven legislators continue to be NCP legislators within the assembly.
And in the absence of any documents relating to the merger of NCP to NPP, Speaker Pyngrope cannot do much except forward the Shullai’s complaint against them to the eleven legislators asking to respond.- By Our Reporter
