BJP to haul up state govt for its failures

SHILLONG, JAN 17: Meghalaya unit of the BJP is gearing to haul the Congress led MUA 11 coalition government led by Mukul Sangma by adopting a political resolution on its failures  on various fronts including curbing crime against women and violation of the NGT ban.

The resolution will be taken during the state executive committee (SEC) meeting  of the saffron party to be chaired by the BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav at Tura in West Garo hills district on January 21.

“The SEC meeting will be held at the first regional office of the party, which also will be inaugurated by the national leader,” BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh told reporters on Tuesday.

He informed that the meeting will accordingly pass a political resolution against the Congress led state government’s failures on various issues.

Highlighting some of the failures, he said there is a sharp rise in crimes against women and children which only indicates the failure of the present state government where a legislator himself have confessed to heinous crime of rape.

“Moreover the crime(rape) against a minor had taken place in the guest house owned by state home minister’s family,” Lyngdoh said while reiterating the demand that the home minister must step down to pave way for free and fair investigation into the case.

He also said that the state government must speed up setting up of fast track courts to ensure the cases relating to crimes against women and children are disposed of at the earliest.

Lyngdoh also pointed out recent newspapers reports alleging illegal mining taking place in parts of the state which is a violation against the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) which has imposed blanket ban on coal mining.

“The state government is responsible for such violation against the NGT’s ban on coal mining,” he said.

Alleging corrupt practices in the weighbridges which led to leakage of revenue, Lyngdoh said, “This shows that the administration in the state has totally collapsed and it has affected the state’s exchequer to a large extent.”

He informed that the party, after passing the resolution, will constitute committees to follow up with the different departments.
