SHILLONG, DEC 18: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) State Youth Wing rebutted UDP senior working president Bindo M Lanong by saying that party does not need certificate from him where the latter had said “it is the end of KHNAM’ after the district council bye-elections debacle
KHNAM-SYW president Thomas Passah said in a statement on Sunday, “We congratulate the UDP for winning from two seats in the bye-election, but at the same time wish to inform that the party does not need any certificate from its senior leader (Lanong).”
KHNAM candidates from three constituencies – Laban-Mawprem, Nongkrem and Pariong-Mawthadraishan- failed to win any of the three seats in the just concluded bye-polls.
The votes polled by its party candidates from Nongkrem, Edarstar Lyngdoh Nongbri was only 455, Laban-Mawprem candidate Bankhraw Singh Kharbuli – 278 and Pariong-Mawthadraishan candidate Pyndapborlang Lyngdoh Marshilong-121.
“We strongly condemned the childish statement made by such a veteran politician like him (Lanong),” Passah said while clarifying that the party had fielded only three candidates based on the principles it stood.
He added that the UDP, which claimed to be the largest regional parties, failed to ensure the development of the state on all fronts when it was in power.
Stating that the party is not looking at the results as a setback, Passah added it only has acyed as inspiration to work harder in the coming days.
