‘BJP can’t wrestle power’

SHILLONG, DEC 12: The Aam Admi  Party (AAP) in the state on Monday ruled out any chances for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to wrestle power in Meghalaya.  “We don’t believe that the BJP will be able to form the government in the state,” AAP state legal cell secretary Peter A Dohkrut told reporters at the sideline of the launching of its ‘campaign for transformation’ to gear up for 2018 state elections.

Attacking the saffron party, Dohkrut  alleged that the BJP though claims itself a  secular party, but in many places it does not display such secularity while referring to the banning of beef and wondered what will happen if such ban is imposed in Meghalaya.

Many political leaders in the state, including sitting members of the three autonomous district councils (ADCs), have join the BJP, which has posturing as a party that fights corruption.

Reacting to this, the AAP young leader said, “I don’t believe that they can fight corruption with this trend (of people who were part of a corrupt government joining their party).”

“It is a matter of principle,” he said while pointing out that the constitution of the AAP binds anybody who joins the party to file affidavits before the court that if they break the rules, they will be asked to voluntary resign from the party.

When asked that the AAP’s campaign is also to fight corruption but its national president Kejriwal, also Delhi CM, is against the Centre’s demonetization exercise against black  money, Dohkrut defended by saying, “We support it (demonetization) but are concern of the steps taken that have made the common people to suffer.”

Echoing Meghalaya’s chief minister Mukul Sangma, he said, “It will not curb corruption but it is making corruption easier.”

Sangma had earlier maintained that the decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes will only create avenues for “bigger corruptions” and the Centre should be ready to face real circumstances.

The AAP leader also alleged that the majority of the BJP members were already in the know about the move of the Centre to launch the demonetization exercise which was announced on November 8.

He said this is a surgical strike with intentions with elaborating on it.
