SHILLONG, NOV 17: India’s First Cherry Blossom Festival, organized by Meghalaya government’s Forests and
Environment department in association with Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), a National Institute of Department of Biotechnology, ended with a grand success.
The four days festival which coincided with Children’s’ Day attracted tourists from several countries and different parts of India.
A flurry of activities including cultural programs, Drawing and Painting Competition, Traditional Archery, Unplugged musical events, online photo competition, Serenity Choir, Fashion Show, Stunt Bikers Display, Cycle Rally, Rendition of Traditional Songs of Meghalaya, Cherry Blossom Golf Tournament, Miss Cherry Blossom Beauty Contest, Rock Concert, Cherry Blossom Run, Night walks under illuminated cherry blossoms and the Exhibit and Sale outlets and the food stalls witnessed huge footfalls.
These activities were spread across the day starting from dawn till late night.
The festival generated enthusiasm amongst the people who also danced to the tunes of the unique music of Meghalaya. Although the festival is officially over, the beauty of the cherry blossoms will continue for another few days.
Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo, Director IBSD, requested the people, and the youth in particular, to visit different sites in and around Shillong to enjoy the beauty of Cherry Blossoms, which has brought a pink revolution to the region.
He asked the people to take up plantation of Cherry Blossom trees in large numbers through avenue plantation so that the city will be ready to host future edition of the festival in a grander way.
