Shillong, Nov 2: Seven carjackers were arrested Friday after the police laid a trap net while they were trying to smuggle out one vehicle reportedly stolen from Assam via Meghalaya.
The arrested car lifters have been identified as Md. Nazarul Ali Islam from Nalbari, Raju Boro of Ganeshpara, Md Hasmad Ali of Barpeta, Raj Thakuria of Mongoldoi, u K.H Devavarata from Imphal and Kamal Rosaili of Happy Valley
The arrest was made after the East Khasi hill district police acted on a tip off provided by the Assam police. The police immediately launched an operation and intercepted the stolen vehicle in Upper Shillong said , East Khasi hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) M Kharkhrang.
Altogether, six car-lifters were arrested from the vehicle, he said.
Kharkhrang informed that police have also picked up one person identified as Dorji Namgyal from Madanrting for his involvement in the racket.
According to police, the Bolero (AS 01 AV 5117) was stolen by the six persons from Basistha-Beltola – a place located at the outskirt of Guwahati in Assam. Police also seized a Maruti Wagon-R ML5-E-7584 which was used by the arrested lifters for their operations.
Police said the Wagon-R belongs to one Kamai Rosaili who is an agent of the Rani Motor. Investigation is on into the carjacking case.-By Our Reporter
