TURA, OCT 20: A man in Kharkutta in North Garo hills has been arrested for raping his minor daughters, a delayed police report said today.The accused identified as Mithunjoy Marak, 40 was arrested on October 15 for allegedly raping two minors – a six-year-old and thirteen-year-old.
He is presently in police custody.
The accused had committed the heinous act on the eldest daughter (step daughter) for several months, which was witnessed by the mother. The six-year-old was raped on September 30. Her mother gave up when Marak raped his own six-year-old daughter.
Initially the clan members had attempted to compromise the incident. However, victims’ mother finally filed an FIR against her husband leading to his arrest.
“It is shameful that the maharis (clan members) made attempt to shield such a heinous act. It is unpardonable, the accused should be punished”, said Samgar Sangma, an activist based in Tura.
The accused was pardon for raping the 13-year-old earlier by the maharis.
“We immediately arrested the culprit after the mother filed an FIR at Kharkutta police station. We were informed about the heinous act by some concerned citizens of the area as well”, Raghavendra Kumar, North Garo Hills SP informed.- From Our Correspondent
