TURA, OCT 19: Meghalaya police on Wednesday suspended a sub-inspector attached with the Tura police station in West Garo hills for allegation that he had manhandled a rescued youth from Risipara locality. On October 13, police had rescued three youth from the locality at midnight.
The youth were beaten when they made attempts to create trouble in the locality. Locals had said that the youth were looking for ganja (marijuana), over which a scuffle broke out between the youth and the residents.
Of the three youth, one had succumbed to the injuries on October 15.
The sub-inspector stand accused for kicking the rescued youth on their groin. There are also allegations that the officer failed to initiate measure to hand over the minors to their parents and kept them at the police station whole night after medical examination were done at Tura civil hospital.
“We have suspended the sub-inspector and have initiated a departmental inquiry”, said Mukesh Singh, senior superintendent of police, West Garo Hills.-From Our Correspondent
