TURA, SEPT 19: After Shillong, chief minister Mukul Sangma flagged off the highway patrol vehicles in the presence of parliamentary secretary Noverfield Marak, Tura MDC Rupert Sangma, Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi, district police officials of West and South West Garo hills and local leaders and senior citizens at Tura Police Reserve on Monday.
These highway patrol vehicles are being launched across the state to strengthen the police units along the national highways to ensure quick and effective police response during incidents of road accidents, crimes, medical emergencies, etc. These vehicles would be placed strategically along the areas identified as accident prone or highway dacoity prone areas.
Three such highway patrol vehicles – two for West Garo hills and one for South West Garo hills – were flagged off by the chief minister on the occasion.-From Our Correspondent
