SHILLONG, SEPT 2: Nurses of the premier super-speciality medical institute in the northeastern region NEIGRIHMS on Friday threatened to resort to mass casual leave and hunger strike if the centre fails to address their grievances and demands within 30 days.
The announcement was made during a peaceful protest staged by hundreds of nurses of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) held here.
The protest was organized under the banner of the All India Government Nurses Federation (AIGNF) against the failure of the NEIGHRIMS management and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
“The NEIGRIHMS administration and Ministry are requested to settle the genuine demands of the nurses within 30 days,” NEIGRIHMS Nurses Association (NNA) president Dilip Kumar Sharma told reporters.
He also said, “If the demands are not met within the stipulated period, we will intensify our protest and join mass casual leave, hunger strike. The institute and Ministry are responsible any untoward incidences and harm to the patients.”
Earlier, the NNA has also submitted a 10-point charter of demands to the NEIGRIHMS Director Dr P Bhattacharya.
One of the major demands is related to entry level grade pay of nurses which they feel be fixed as Pay Band-3 GP 4500 and cascading effect on subsequent higher posts.
They have also demanded for consideration of risk allowance, night duty allowance, telephone allowance, conveyance allowance and hiking the nursing allowance.
The other issues are related to revision of the nursing teaching staff pay as per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare order issued of the Sixth Pay Commission, extending benefits and allowances for all cadre of employees at par with AIIMS, creation of ANS posts.
The nurses also demanded reducing the working hours of nurses to 40 hours in a week, addressing the irregularities in crediting of employee and employer New Pension Scheme contribution in employee account and regularization of the services of the employee who have been appointed on contract.
Besides, all the outsource nurses should be appointed on contract and no outsourcing of nurses should be exercised which is as per Government of India orders, they stated.-By Our Reporter
