SHILLONG, AUG 8: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Federation (HNYF) central body today issued warning against non-tribal fish-pond owners in Ri Bhoi district against malpractices by under measuring live fishes while selling to local people. In a statement issued on Monday, HYNF office secretary Donbok Dkhar said, “In this regards we have issued strong warning to the owners of such ponds that such malpractices will not be tolerated in future.”
He informed that based on complaints of people buying live fishes from several ponds located in Ribhoi District, the HNYF has found that the owners of these ponds mostly owned by non-tribal are engaging in malpractices of under measuring fishes against customers buying live fishes from their ponds.
Meanwhile, he informed that in order to prevent the massive abuse by these ponds owners as against the interest of the locals who earn their livelihood from this occupation, a meeting will be convened at Nongpoh on August 13.
“We invite all local fish ponds owner to attend the meeting to be conducted by the HNYF Nongpoh Circle at its office in Nongpoh at 12 noon,” he said while adding that the purpose of this meeting is to deliberate on the issues of preservation, protection and promotion of the interests of the local indigenous people that might accrue from pisiculture.-By Our Reporter
