SHILLONG, JULY 27: Tura Lok Sabha MP Conrad Sangma raised the issue of flood in Garo hills in specific and Meghalaya and north east India in general in Lok Sabha during the zero hour on Wednesday.
Sangma mentioned that the flood situation in Garo hills was very serious with conditions getting worse day by day. He urged the central government to take up the matter with the state government and expedite measures to help all those people who were affected by the floods.
Sangma mentioned that areas in the border such as Tikrikilla, Chibinang, Phulbari, Rajabala and surrounding areas, Singimari and surrounding areas have been worse affected.
Sangma urged the government to declare the flood as a national calamity and to ensure that central government provides relief to the affected areas. He also urged that an inter-ministerial delegation be sent to North East India to survey the affected areas and to coordinate with the state governments and other agencies so that necessary help and relief could be given to the affected people of the area.
Sangma later met the union minister in-charge DONER Jitender Singh and submitted a memorandum on the flood.-By Our Reporter
