SHILLONG, JULY 18: Five persons were arrested for their involvement in demanding ransom of Rs 30 lakh for the release of one Damankhraw Wanniang (25) who was abducted last month.
On June 27, a missing complaint was filed by Spcially Wanniang of Mawtawar Laitlum stating that her son Damankhraw Wanniang (25) was missing.However on July 4, she received a mobile call informing that her son is in the custody of the caller who demanded Rs 30, 00,000 for his release.
Acting swiftly, Mawlai police took up the investigation and arrested five persons who are suspected to have been involved in the kidnapping of the youth and demanding the ransom.
They have been identified as Klemenroy Nongtri of Mawlai Nongkwar, John Fishal Lyngkhoi (an HNLC Cadre arrested earlier) of Mawlai Mawtawar, Richard Wahlang of Mawlai Nongkwar (arrested many time earlier for assault), Shanborlang Rani of Mawlai Syllai Kariah (arrested earlier in connection with a murder case) and Kitboklang Kharsyntiew of Mawiong (arrested earlier for assault).
According to East Khasi hills SP M Kharkrang, none of them were cooperating with the investigating agency.
Ultimately, on July 17 based on some leads, a search was conducted in the jungle at Mawlai Mawtawar and a fresh dug earth was excavated in presence of magistrate and a naked male body fully decomposed was found.
Kharkrang said police suspect that the body is of the missing person. Further investigation is on, he said.-By Our Reporter
