TURA, JULY 15: Williamnagar Civil Hospital has come under scanner after a woman gave birth in the toilet of the hospital last week. State health minister AL Hek yesterday instructed the hospital authorities to submit a detailed report on the incident immediately.
The hospital authorities clarified on the incident and stated that on July 7, the pregnant woman, who was admitted in the hospital, complained of abdominal pain and other complexities.
“We did a through checkup and found that the OS (dilation) was minimal. When she complained again at about 11 pm, another check was done and dilation was taken at 2 cm (10 cm dilation is required for birth),” clarified the hospital authorities.
The pregnant woman and her husband were advised to immediately inform if the pain returned so that emergency services could be activated but they failed to do so.
“Since there was no complaint from the woman, the nurses went to attend to the other patients that were in the Isolation ward, with a strict advisory to both to immediately call if the pain returned. After the nurses returned, the patient’s party complained that the mother had given birth in the toilet floor (not in the commode as was reported). She reportedly went with another person to relieve herself when the birth took place but there was no complaint,” the hospital authorities clarified.
“We had advised the husband time and again to inform us if she needed to be moved as care had to be taken but were not told. She even locked the toilet door, something that is not advised at times of delivery. Immediately after the birth, the mother and the baby were attended to by the nurse on duty and there was no further complication,” they added.-From Our Correspondent
