SHILLONG, JUNE 25:“Stop child trafficking!! It not only saves a child but also the nation. Put an end to it (Drugs), before it put an end to you!!!” – was one of the posters pasted by students at the walls of the Sadar Police Station. Students from over 30 educational institutions including schools, colleges and vocational institute participated in the posters and slogan campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The Sadar Police Station organized a week long programme on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking, which concluded on Saturday.
During an awareness programme, a short play was staged by the police unit hospital, Shillong exhibiting how drugs abuse not only affects the health of an individual but also the family and society.
Presentation on the ills of drug abuse was also given by members of ngos from Manbha Foundation, Impulse Foundation and others.
Addressing on the occasion, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang highlighted the challenges faced by the police while dealing and tackling cases which are often a result of drug abuse.
Kharkrang also distributed prizes to the winners of the poster and slogan campaign which include Anisha Ranis of Ram Krishan Mission Institute (RKMI), Steffy Jyrwa of RKMI and Ayush Chanda of Shillong Boys High School, Jail Road who bagged the first, second and third prize on Drugs Abuse while Silse Danngo of Ruprekha School, Shillong, Lima A Sangma of Valley View School Pynthorumkhrah and Bansiew D Lyngkhoi who were given first, second and third prize for Human Trafficking.-By Our Reporter
