SHILLONG, JUNE 15: In a tragic bus accident at Sonapur in East Jaintia hills, thirty people reportedly died on the spot and eight of the passengers were injured. The accident took place at around 10 pm on Tuesday night when the night super bus was heading towards Silchar from Guwahati.
East Jaintia hills deputy commissioner WR Lyngdoh told this website that there were thirty eight passengers travelling in the ill-fated bus that tumbled down a deep gorge. The gorge is around 500 feet deep making the rescue operation very difficult.
Lyngdoh said that eight passengers who were rescued have been taken to the nearby CHC. However five of the injured whose conditioned are seriously were shifted to the Jowai Civil hospital.
Lyngdoh informed that the number of passengers who might have lost their lives in the tragic bus accident cannot be confirmed as rescue operation is still going on. He said as of now it could only be confirmed that than 30 passengers have lost their life.
Lyngdoh said that the rescue operation is still continuing with the BSF and Civil Defence joining the police from East Jaintia hills. He said, “ As the gorge is really deep, it is making the rescue operation difficult.”-By Our Reporter
