SHILLONG, JUNE 7: The state government on Tuesday approved the draft Meghalaya Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Rules, 2015.
Addressing pressmen after the cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Revenue Roytre C Laloo said, “We have approved the draft Meghalaya Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Rules, 2015.”
According to him, the draft rules is as mandated by the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
Laloo informed that the views and opinions of stakeholders on the draft rules will be obtained within 30 days from the date of publication of the rules.
When asked, the deputy chief minister said that the opinion of the autonomous district councils (ADCs) will also be asked on this regard.
Throwing more light on the act, he said that the act will apply if there is need to acquire land. With regards to the limit of the application of act, Laloo said acquisition of land measuring 5 acres in urban areas and 50 acres in rural areas will be exempted from the act.-By Our Reporter
