SHILLONG, MAY 18: Two muster-roll employees of the PWD Sohiong sub division have been terminated allegedly on the order of state transport minister HDR Lyngdoh, who is also a local MLA of Sohiong constituency.
Banshai Malniang and Arson Malniang, who were working as muster-roll in the PWD Sohiong Sub-division, were asked to discontinue their services by the sectional official RS Syiem from April 1.
Speaking to reporters during a press conference on Wednesday, Banshai and Arson displayed a phone recording of the conversation held between one of them with the section official saying– “You are advice to contact “Ma Heh” on the matter.”
According to them, Lyngdoh is lovingly called as Ma Heh by the people of the constituency.
Banshai alleged that the decision to terminate was instigated by a supporter identified as Tibun Jana. “Jana had alleged that since we have never voted for Lyngdoh in the election, we should be removed from our jobs,” he said.
Meanwhile, RTI activist Desparsing Ranee said that the sudden termination of the two muster roll is a violation of the minimum wages act of the centre government and also a notification issued by PWD Executive Engineer.
He said as per the government notification issued on June 11, 2014, it is clearly stated that Banshai had joined work on March 20, 2009 and his due date for retirement is January 21, 2047 while Arson’s joining date was on March 3, 2010 and retirement date is on January 31, 2049.
The notification was obtained under RTI Act, 2005.
Condemning the action of the minister, Ranee said, “This is the first time in the history where a minister or MLA, who was supposed to find out ways and means to provide employment to the local youths, is indulging in job snatching.”
The RTI activist informed that he is filing another RTI on the issue r to question under which section of the minimum wage act, the two have been terminated and whether the minister or MLA has any right to take away people’s livelihood.-By Our Reporter
