TURA, MAY 2: National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Conrad Sangma on Monday made a volley of attack on Mukul
Sangma led government accusing of fund misuse, released by the union government.
“The government has failed to submit utilization certificate for MGNREGA schemes amounting to Rs. 300 crore to the centre”, alleged Conrad.
He said that Mukul claims that centre is not releasing funds to opposition ruled states, which is totally false. “The reality is state government is misusing funds and has not been able to submit UC, he asserted.
Conrad addressed several poll rallies at Congress stronghold – Rangsakona and Ampati constituency today.
Congress candidate’s husband Mukul Sangma represents Ampati and brother Zenith Rangsakona constituency.
Lambasting the congress government in the state, he said that the government had stopped paying salaries for muster roll workers claiming that there were no funds available.
“Congress failed to provide even Rs. 5000 as salary for a muster roll worker yet they spent 17 crores to hold a music festivals in Shillong. Is this justice to the common man?” he asked.
He also attacked Mukul government for denying the Garo Hills District Council (GHADC) its share of funds from the state government, which has resulted in hundreds of employees and their families being without salaries.
The council staffs have not received salaries for the past nine months.
“Meghalaya government has to pay the GHADC Rs. 25 crores but this is being deliberately held up by the Congress government to try and break our NPP led executive committee in the council. Because of their political game hundreds of genuine employees and their families are suffering for months without any salary and children are unable to pay school fees. Do you think people of Garo Hills will forgive them for this?” he asked.
Highlighting on his late father P A Sangma’s work, who met prime minister Narendra Modi regarding funding for the district councils before his untimely demise, he said that 200 crores have been sanctioned for the GHADC by the central government after Modi met P A Sangma in New Delhi and assured him of all financial aid to the autonomous body.-From Our Correspondent
