Paresh not in Bangla:Garg

SHILLONG, MAY 2: Union home joint secretary Satyendra Garg on Monday confirmed that the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) ‘chief of staff’ Paresh Baruah is not hiding in neighbouring Bangladesh.

“He (Baruah) is not there in Bangladesh as per my information,” Garg told reporters at the sidelined of his meeting with state home minister Roshan Warjri on Monday.

He said, “We have got some information”. Refusing to disclose the information, the joint secretary however said, “Let us not speculate…our agency will keep looking for him.”

“People like Paresh Baruah don’t remain in one place continuously and our agency is keeping a track on him whenever it is possible,” he said even as he refused to comment on the alleged role of China.

Asked about the militant camps in Bangladesh, he said that the present Bangladesh government has been very cooperative due to which we came to know about the camps there.

Meanwhile, the union home joint secretary while informing that the ITBP from Shillong will be shifted very soon however declined that there are any proposal to shift the Assam Rifles near the area of operation.

Soon after the announcement was made on the ITBP, the NESO has recently demanded that the Assam Rifles should also be shifted.

“At the moment we don’t have any such request,” Garg said adding that Assam Rifles is all over North East and Shillong of course being the most important town, they have got the right to be here.-By Our Reporter
