TURA,APR 27: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma will formally launch his official campaign beginning tomorrow to drum up support for his legislator wife Dikkanchi D. Shira, who is pitted against NPP candidate Conrad Kongkal Sangma for the May 16 Tura Lok Sabha by-poll.
Addressing media at Congress Bhavan in Tura, Mukul lashed out at the BJP for trying to polarize the nation. Hitting out at the BJP, Mukul said that the Congress party would campaign in the election to enlighten the people about the grave danger, which is before the nation as the BJP is dividing the majority and minority.
“Congress has always stood to protect the secular fabric of the nation. People of Garo hills should strengthen the party, so that the voice of our people can be heard in the parliament”, he said.
When questioned that Lok Sabha election and now the bye- election looks to be a fight between him (Mukul) and the NPP candidate, he said, “I represent the Congress party and it is my responsibility to drive the campaign. I have to sensitize the people about the positive achievements of the government”.
He stated that if Congress candidate Dikkanchi wins the election, she would be able to aid the government is pursuing and pushing the development agenda of the government. “MP is important as their role will be to sublimate the effort of the government to take forward the development agenda of the state”, he said.-From Our Correspondent
