SHILLONG, APR 13: The 57-year-old St Peter’s Higher Secondary School office and the house of the owner located at Dhanketi was
completely gutted by fire on Wednesday morning.
The inferno that consumed the school office and the house of the school owner as the fire took place at around 4 am and destroyed the Assam type built portion of the school.
Explosions of gas cylinders busting was also heard during the night.
The RCC building of the school was also partially damaged.
According to SP (city) Vivek Syiem, despite the fire tenders reaching the spot within minutes of the fire being reported, the raging fire could not be brought under control.
The school is privately own by one Peter Thorose, an Anglo Indian.
When asked, Syiem said that police are still investigating into the incident to find out the exact cause of the fire. The dry wooden structure made the old house susceptible to fire, he said.
Meanwhile, neighbours said the fire was caused by a short circuit and then spread across the old block of the school.- By Our Reporter
