SHILLONG, APR 12: At least four persons including two minors died while seven others were hospitalized after eating a wild mushroom found in a jungle near their home in East Khasi hills district, officials said.
All are from the same family hailing from Mawsawa village near Mawsynram (Sohra), official said.
District officials said that soon after consuming the wild mushroom collected from a nearby jungle, all the members of the family were rushed to the hospital when they started vomiting.
Drisda Rapthap, her two children – a one year old and 7 year old Iainehskhem Rapthap and her brother in-law Ioki Dewkhaid (29) died while her husband Synsharlang Dewkhaid, his mother and five other children, whose conditions are critical, were shifted to the Shillong Civil Hospital and Ganesh Das Hospital for treatment, they said.
“We have immediately sent a team to the village to conduct an inquiry into the incident,” East Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said. He said that the family is said to have fallen ill after consuming a wild mushroom adding the magistrate have been asked to submit the report on the matter at the earliest.- By Our Reporter
