Police chief urges recruits to keep on studying

Shillong, Oct 17:  Encouraging the freshly recruited constable to study further and enhance their opportunity to be promoted to higher ranks, Meghalaya DGP N Ramachandran said that the recruits who are not matriculate should study further and not stop after getting into the service.

The Meghalaya government recently lowered the educational criteria for recruitment as armed constables from matriculation to class ninth passed. However, Ramachandran during the passing out parade of 132 constables or Dikshant Parade of the 37th batch of the 1st Meghalaya police at Mawiong Wednesday said,    “Those of you who are not matriculate should keep on studying. You have the chance to reach high status.”

.Welcoming the fresh recruits to the “Indian police family”, Ramachandran said, “As part of this great family you will enjoy privileges and will also have to shoulder responsibilities as policing is a challenging job”. He said that the new recruits now have the opportunity to serve the country and the people who are in distress by protecting their lives, properties and honour.”

Expressing happiness that 50 per cent of the new recruits were women, Ramachandran  urged the young police personnel to be prepared to lay their lives in the service of the country and the people.

Underscoring the importance of the training that is vitally linked with efficient functioning  of the police, commandant of the 1st MLP, AR Mawthoh said the new constables had  completed nine months of rigorous basic training and gave a “good account of themselves”.

Mawthoh informed that the basic course was designed in such a way that recruits, apart from being able to adapt themselves to different situations were also able to understand and appreciate people’s sentiments and problems.

Prizes and trophies were given away to the recruit constables who had excelled  in various fields during the course of their training.- By Our Reporter
