SHILLONG, APR 3: A cattle smuggler identified as Rubi Miya (35) was apprehended by BSF along the international border in South Garo hills while he was trying to smuggle out eight cattle to Bangladesh.
Miya (35) is from Jhagrachar village under Dhubri district of Assam, BSF officials said. The official said Miya was nabbed during an anti-infiltration drive conducted by the BSF deployed at Lukaichar.
In another incident, a total of 41 cattle were also seized in South West Garo Hills while they were being smuggled out to Bangladesh. The price of beef in Bangladesh had gone up by 30 percent, earlier it was 280-290 taka for a kilogram of beef now it is 300-320 taka/kg.
According to BSF officials, basically Bangladeshi farmers have consented on cow fattening and cow farming now.
BSF troops, meanwhile, have been put on high alert on the International border to foil any attempt of ill design of anti-national elements. The BSF of Meghalaya frontier has strengthened operations on Indo-Bangladesh Border to check trans -border activities across the border.-By Our Reporter
