TURA, MAR 15: South West Garo hills district administration is making an effort to reach out to the youths to motivate them to join the Indian Army, recruitment of which will be held at Dikki Bandi Stadium in Tura from April 13-17.
A pre-recruitment counseling-cum-physical test practice was held on Tuesday at Ampati mini stadium, conducted by Meghalaya police, BSF and the CRPF, organised by the district administration under Chief Minister’s Career Guidance and Counseling scheme.
The objective of the programme was to create awareness on the recruitment procedure and gear up the youths with the necessary preparation and physical fitness parameters.
The detailed programme schedule of the recruitment rally, eligibility criteria, physical test, syllabus for Common Entrance Exam, documents to be brought at rally side were briefed in English, Garo and Hindi at the programme.
The administration also directed information and public relations department to provide wide publicity of the recruitment rally. Banners and notices have also been put up at prominent places, so that the desired information reaches to candidates.
About 500 youths took part in the programme.
Interacting with the youths, the deputy commissioner of South West Garo Hills Ram Singh highlighted on the rigorous recruitment procedure and asked them to be prepared well in advance. “Indian Army will select only the finest, so you have to perform”, said Singh, who encourage the youths to excel in the upcoming tests.
On documentation, he said, “Administration will expedite the issuance of necessary certificates like domicile”. On March 10, similar programme was also held at Mahendraganj.
The administration is upbeat with last year’s recruitment, wherein 60 youths from Garo hills were absorbed. The administration will also provide coaching for written examination for candidates qualifying the physical efficiency test.
Last year, 16 candidates from South West Garo Hills had cleared the written examination.
In February, Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma spoke at a counseling session in Phulbari and kick started the campaign, which was attended by about 8000 youths.-From Our Correspondent
