TURA, FEB 28 : The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in statement issued n Sunday evening alleged that the Meghalaya police after discovering bombs from Pathalgre in East Garo hills had indiscriminately fired at village folks without any warrant.
“According to our information several villagers men and women, who went to collect fire woods managed to escape from police firing and many were badly injured while running for life at Dorengki village”, said Gantong Marak, publicity secretary of the outfit in the release.
The outfit said that the police had continuously fired throughout Saturday night and even today that has frightened the people. “Church goers frightened as police kept on firing continuously all around today, while the faithful were en route to the Sunday services.
Such exercises on the part of security forces is uncalled for”, Marak added. The outfit claimed that the action of the police is no different from “Taliban”, who are over exercising their gun power on innocent folks instead of protecting them.-From Our Correspondent
