SHILLONG, FEB 15: The court of special judge (POSCO) recently convicted and sentenced a rape accused to four and a half years of imprisonment for his involvement in attempting to rape a minor girl. In its order issued on February 11, the court of special judge, Shillong, has convicted one Kitboklang Kharsyntiew and sentenced him to imprisonment for 4 ½ years, East Khasi hills SP M Kharkrang informed.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 and in default, a further term of imprisonment of one month.
Kharsyntiew was arrested for molesting one minor girl and also attempted to rape her at Mawlai Umjaiur at 10.30 am on February 6.
A case under section 354/376 (2) (g)/511 IPC R/W Sec. 5(m)(n)/6 POCSO Act was registered against him.
After thorough investigation, the case was charge sheeted and submitted before the court of special judge (POCSO), Kharkhrang said.
