GHADC wants Rs 15 crore royalty share

SHILLONG, DEC 10: The ruling NPP led Garo Hills Progressive Alliance (GHPA) in the GHADC on Thursday demanded that the state government immediately release Rs 15 crore from its share on major and minor minerals to enable the council to release the five months pending salaries of its employees.

A delegation of MDCs and officials of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) led by its deputy chief executive member (Dy CEM) Augustine Marak has been camping in Shillong for the past three days for ensuring the demand is considered by the government.

“We are requesting the government to release of Rs 10 crore from the council’s share on major minerals and Rs 5 crore from minor minerals for the purpose of salary disbursement,” Marak said. He informed that they have submitted memorandums for the immediate release of funds by the state government.”

According to Marak, GHADC has its share in the royalty collected by the state government from major and minor minerals. “While share on major minerals is 75:25 between the state and the council, 40:60 is for minor minerals,” he said.

Stating that though the state government had released significant amount of funds before the elections, but Marak, said, “The detail accounts of share are yet to be compiled. Therefore, GHADC had requested state government to release share for salaries purpose to be adjusted if necessary in the future.”

Meanwhile, the delegation has also submitted a memorandum requesting release of funds from transport department. According to the GHADC delegation the council is supposed to receive 100% share of the amount collected from five districts for all vehicle registration.

Marak stated that the accounts for this were yet to be compiled, but the GHADC had requested a release of 5 crore only to facilitate payment of salary.-By Our Reporter
