SHILLONG, NOV 12: State Bank of India (SBI) will soon embark on an ambitious project by launching the ‘Digital Banking’ in Shillong which will be first of its kind in North East India though the new age banking is already operational in other parts of India.
SBI general manager (NE circle) Pannalal Das told reporters at the sideline of function of donating a mortuary van aptly called ‘Sympathy Van’ donated by the SBI Shillong branch to Geetali – a social organization from Laban on Friday at the SBI Shillong branch premises. Also present during the function were DGM- Shillong BTSKT Bhaskar and AGM (Shillong branch) Surajit Tripathy besides other officials.
The state of art Digital Banking will be one touch corner where everything will be available at one touch. This will also include video conferencing between bank officials and customers.
With 99 branches in Meghalaya, Das said that the SBI is always looking for expansion but felt that if the state is equipped with good roads and infrastructure then investment from the bank will certainly be faster than it is now. The last branch the SBI open was the Mawiong branch.
Speaking about the militant’ infested Garo hills region, Das said that the danger to his employees was as great as to other employees of various offices located in Garo hills. He, however, said that the state government is providing security coverage as and when need to his officials in a region were kidnappings and killings takes place frequently.- By Our Reporter
