Provide evidence: Sylliang

SHILLONG, OCT 28: KHADC EM in-charge trade James Sylliang on Wednesday demanded that the KSU-Ri Bhoi president provide evidence within a week to prove that he had gone to Calcutta to meet top officials of the Agrovet Company, operating in Ri Bhoi district.

“Peterson Kylla, who claimed to be the president of the KSU-Ri Bhoi, should come out with evidence including date, month, time and place in when I met the officials of the company, within one week time,” Sylliang told reporters.

Rubbishing the allegation, Sylliang, Mawhati MDC, said, “It is absolutely false and baseless to say that I had met the officials of the company. But the fact is that I had gone to Calcutta for some personal work.”

He further stated that the allegation is design to mislead the people of the area on the issue.

Stating that no matter what he would stick to the Acts and Rules of the KHADC, Sylliang asserted, “We will act as per rules while issuing trading license to any companies or shops.”

According to him, the matter related to the issuing of the trading license to the company is still under examination.

He also informed that earlier the company was closed down after complaints were received against it for allegedly polluting by releasing the affluent direct to the river, which is main source of drinking water.

“I will soon order for a re-inspection to the company before taking any action,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the district council should not be blamed since it is issuing trading license based on the NOC issued by the Dorbar Shnong adding earlier the Dorbar Shnong of Umsning has withdrew their complaint against the company.

Therefore, he appealed to the dorbar shnong to refrain issuing rampant NOCs to companies.-By Our Reporter
