SHILLONG, SEPT 16: To protest over the delay of Meghalaya governor V Shanmuganathan to give assent to the Village Administration Bills passed by the KHADC and the JHADC, the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Kha Bri U Hynniewtrep (SKNSKBH) on Wednesday made three circular rounds of the Raj Bhavan.
The ‘peaceful march’ took off from All India Radio point culminating at the same spot. The ‘peace march’ saw participation by more than 350 headmen and members of various Dorbars from the city and its outskirt.
SKNSKBH president W Kharshiing told reporters that the ‘peace march’ was undertaken after the deadline given the Governor to give assent his to the VAB expired on September 10.
The decision to the peace march was taken at the general body meeting of the SKNSKBH on the August 22 giving the deadline till September 10 to the Governor to give his assent to the VAB passed by the KHADC and the JHADC.
Kharshiing said the peace march is also to protest against the state government failure to meets various demands including assent by the Governor to the VAB passed by the KHADC and the JHADC, removal of the ordinance, interference of the government in trying to empower the traditional institution which is the subject matter of the district council job and MUDA encroachment outside its jurisdiction.
Kharshiing said they urged the state government to leave the VAB to the district council adding the government have many other things to handle for the overall development of the state and should try to look into matters relating to agriculture , health and education and many other issues.
Kharshiing said “As of now we can see that most of our roads are in a pathetic condition so why is the government not concentrating in these affairs instead of interfering in the affairs which falls under the District Council including headmen, Dorbar, Raids and Hima”.
Asked whether there has been any communication with the government , Kharshiing said “There has been no communication and all we know is through the newspaper that the fovernor has send a letter to the CM and also a copy to the union home Minister to seek their advice”
Kharshiing said they will be meeting in the evening to decided their next course of action adding that they will not attend any meeting convened by the state government relating to the fresh draft bill if they are called because this is a subject matter of the district council.- By Our Reporter
