SHILLONG, SEPT 7: Shillong Lajong FC edged Laitumkhrah SCC by a solitary goal to secure all three points for the second consecutive time in the ongoing Shillong Premier League at JN stadium on Monday.
The first half was dominated the young Reds with good football all around the park. The players played some beautiful football throughout the first half with lots of passes. Laitumkhrah players were unable to get into the game as their attempts to go forward were continuously intercepted by Lajong defenders.
The Reds could have taken the lead in the 37th minute when Bipin Singh took a shot from outside the box which unfortunately hit the cross bar. It was Bipin again just before half time who had another chance when his powerful shot was fumbled by the keeper and it seemed to have gone in but the referee ruled out the goal. Even though Lajong had numerous opportunities, the first half ended with no goals scored.
Laitumkhrah came out with more conviction in the second half and started to trouble the Lajong defence. The game opened up more as chances were missed on either ends. Then in the 75th minute, Jacob Lalrawngbawla opened the score sheet with a beautiful free kick from 35 yards into the near post corner of the goal. Minutes later, Lajong’s midfielder Ksankupar, received a straight red card after allegedly handling the ball in the opponents box.
Laitumkhrah started to have a lot of chances in front but lacked a clinical finisher. The Reds defended really well right to the final whistle and emerged victorious.
Lajong now have two wins from two matches and will play their next match on the 12th of September against Royal Wahingdoh FC.-By Our Reporter
