SHILLONG, SEPT 4: The lower primary school teachers on Friday demanded the state government to speed up issuing the notification to extend the retirement benefits to them within September 14. The demand was made after the cabinet decided to extend the Death Cum Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) and Contributory Provident Fund (CPF) to the LP deficit school teachers in the state.
The teachers under the banner of the All Meghalaya Primary Teachers Association (AMPSTA) met Meghalaya government chief adviser DD Lapang requesting him to intervene into the issue.
“We urged the state government to immediately issue the notification with regards to the DCRG and CPF to the lower primary teachers within September 14,” AMPSTA general secretary FC Shullai told reporters after the meeting.
He said that the reason for the demand is because the association wanted to make this announcement in its meeting to be held at Nongpoh on September 16, which coincides with the death anniversary of Rev Thomas Jones.
He also said AMPSTA for the past 20 years has been fighting to demand the rights of the teachers, which the state government has finally fulfilled recently an expressed appreciation on the initiative of the government to provide social security to the teachers.
AMPSTA delegation also urged Lapang to convince the state government to consider re-granting of the Head Teacher Allowance (HTA) to the teachers. According to them, the HTA was totally stopped by the government in 2010.
Lapang assured the delegation that he would take up the issue with chief minister Mukul Sangma.- By Our Reporter
