SHILLONG, SEPT 3: West Garo hills deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi on Thursday lodged an FIR seeking immediate arrest of a fake Nokma for illegally selling of plots of land under Boldamgre Akhing land.
The FIR was lodged based on the findings of an inquiry conducted by the officials of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) against the illegal selling of land by one Olsin Ch Marak, who claimed to be Nokma.
“We urged the authority to book the culprits under various sections of Indian Penal Code for criminal conspiracy, misrepresentation and fraud, impersonating and cheating,” said Bakshi said in the FIR submitted to SP Mukesh Singh.
He also said, “The conduct and illegal act of the alleged culprit also attracts penal sections of the Meghalaya Land Transfer Act for its violation. As such the person may kindly be apprehended as per provisions of law.”
The fraud was first brought to the notice of the deputy commission through a complaint submitted by the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Phulbari Zone.
Bakshi also informed that after the inquiry, it is found that Olsin Ch Marak, who is not a registered Nokma of the Boldamgre Akhing Land has declared himself as the Nokma.
“He (Marak) had also sold some plots of land under Boldamgre Akhing Land to some persons including non-tribals and around 42 numbers of sales deeds papers had been obtained from the purchasers,” Bakshi added .- By Our Reporter
