SHILLONG, JULY 27: KHADC deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) PT Sawkmie, said he supports the peace rally sponsored by the KJP Assembly to protest against the alleged atrocities on Christian minority, slated to be held at Students’ Field, Jaiaw on August 1.
“I appeal to all the people of Mawlai constituency to also extend their support and solidarity by taking part in the peace rally as a mark to protest against the atrocities on Christian and vandalizing of their churches in the different parts of the country,” Sawkmie said in a statement on Monday.
He further urged the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend special protection to the Christians. “I urged the government of India to ensure that the freedom to worship in any religion is not affected in a secular country like ours,” he said.
According to him, it is important for everybody coming from different denomination to come out on August 1, to show that such acts will not be tolerated in a secular set up. He also demanded that the NDA government should also assure that Christians in the different parts of the country have the right to worship freely.- By Our Reporter
