SHILLONG, JULY 20: Late sub-inspector Pearlystone Joshua Marbaniang, who died a ‘mysterious death’, mother D Marbaniang filed a writ petition in the Meghalaya high court requesting for handing over the case to the CBI immediately.
The petition was filed after the government constituted Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the case failed to submit its report even after the deadline expired on June 18.
“The SIT has failed in all aspects of the investigation and could not draw any conclusion till date as such I pray that the direction may be passed for handing over the case to the CBI for justice,” Marbaniang said in the writ petition submitted on Monday.
On January 24 this year , Pearlystone Joshua Marbaniang, who was in charge of Patharkhmah police outpost in Ri Bhoi district, was found critically injured with a gunshot on his head in his official quarter, a day after detaining several illegal coal trucks.
Earlier, police had claimed that Marbaniang, had allegedly shot himself with his service revolver and it is clear case of suicide but later when the deceased’s wife lodged an FIR, a murder case was registered.
Late Marbaniang’s mother said that the incident happened soon after detaining 32 trucks carrying coal illegally to Assam and as such same lead to a strong suspicion that he might have been killed for detaining the trucks.
“Therefore, it is prayed that free, fair and independent investigation through CBI may be directed in order to bring the culprit to light or else every honest and brave person who dare to raise voice against such social evil will be eliminated in the name of ‘suicide’,” she stated in the petition.- By Our Reporter
