Shillong, Oct 2: Junestar Kharbuli – President of Bouncers’ Association of Meghalaya (BAM) and National Arm Wrestling Competitor- walked away with the coveted “RR Thomas Youth Icon 2012” award polling 10, 713 out of the 46,329 votes beating four others.
The result was announced Tuesday at a jam-packed Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture auditorium where chief minister Mukul Sangma was also present among other dignitaries. Constituted by Avenue to commemorate its ten years, Sangma lauded the initiative taken by Avenues management by recognizing the achievement and contribution made by the youths in the State.
Giving away the beautifully crafted tropthy to Kharbuli, . Sangma said, “Great minds think of great things and that has been seen today.” He said if nobody acknowledged the good done by the youths, then the bad prevails.” He urged the youths to draw inspiration from the Icons and channel their energy towards positive things.
Minutes after being crowned the first ever ‘Youth Icon’ Kharbuli acknowledged and thanked the blessing showered by the almighty and reaffirmed his faith in God. He said, “ I derive my strength and wisdom in all my endeavours from Him and even for today’s achievement, I owe it to God.”- By Our Reporter
