SHILLONG, JUNE 13: A Khasi documentary film entitled – ‘Where the Clouds End’ directed by Wanphrang K Diengdoh will be screened at the International Festival of Ethnographic Film, 2015 Bristol, United Kingdom on June 17.

“The documentary film has been selected to be screened at the Special Interest Screening of the 14th Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) International Festival of Ethnographic Film,” Diengdoh informed.

He said that the screening is organised by The Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Bristol and The Center for Visual Anthropology, Department of Anthropology, Dornsife College, University of Southern California, LA, California.

Giving an overview of his documentary, Diengdoh said, “‘Where the Clouds End’ documents the Khasis’ struggle to claim an authentic ethnicity, racial purity and right to land.”

“It challenges stereotypical notions of the unwanted ‘outsider’ who threatens traditions, social structures and moral values,” he said.

Explored over three chapters, whose titles are the pillars of the Khasi traditional faith, the director said, the ‘Where the Clouds End’ examines tribal identity as a fluid concept which defies man-made imaginations, historical ideals, political definitions and geographic boundaries.- By Our Reporter
