SHILLONG, JUNE 13: A brush of cold but fresh air by the lake’ side and a musical treat that lighten up the ambience can only make Shillong’s Ward’s Lake the hotspot of tourists and local alike in the city known for its rolling hills, cascading waterfalls and not to forget its great love for music.
On a lazy Saturday afternoon, visitors to this famous lake were pleasantly surprised to be treated with musical performance by the students of the Department of Fine Arts, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU). This is the second year that the MLCU held a music road show in Ward’s Lake to entertain and prepare their music students for a different kind of stage.
As people and love birds strolled by the lakeside and some of them peddling the boats, music in the form of soul, classical guitaring, rap and indigenous music of the hills were played soothing their nerves . The indigenous elements plugged into the music added value to the whole rendition.
“More events like these will be happening as we hope it will be an opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy a musical get away from life’s stresses by the lake”, said Fine Arts HOD, Wada Kharkhuli. Kharlikhi informing that this the second year this event has been organised and they plan to make it a weekly show every Saturday in Ward’s Lake.
The other objective of these events is to provide a platform for students to showcase their musical skills and talents, going a long way for the student-performers to learn experientially.
Taking a walk by the lakeside, Pushpak from Kolkata was captivated by the performance that came very naturally to the music students. “I love it – the music just changed the way this place looks. We have heard many times that Shillong is a musical city, it is one thing to hear it and completely the other to witness that on the ground, and today by the lake”, Pushpak concluded.- By Our Reporter
