Shillong, Oct 1`: Meghalaya Assembly speaker Charles Pyngrope said he is still studying the complaint filed by the state NCP convener Sanbor Shullai against the eleven NCP legislators who had merged with the National People’s Party (NPP). The complaint was filed on September 28.
Speaking to www.ohmeghalaya.com Monday Pyngrope said that he will give his judgment after going through the provision of the anti-defection act. He said, “Pass judgment of the Meghalaya speaker(s) on such issue will also be a yardstick, but the anti-defection act will guide me to come to a judgment on this particular issue.”
Pyngrope also said if any of the parties- NCP or NPP- feels aggrieved by his judgment they can always take recourse to law and challenge it in the court of law. He, however, refused to say how long he will be taking to give his judgment on the NCP complaint.
The state NCP had filed the complaint against the eleven legislators who had merged with the PA Sangma led NPP after it received a directive from its party high command in Delhi.
The NCP from Delhi had filed its complaint with the Assembly speaker but was turned down as it was deemed inappropriate as according to rules only a member in the Assembly can file a petition.
The NCP central leadership then directed its state party unit to file the complaint with the Assembly speaker. – By Our Reporter
